Owaraga is a name from Teso. It means the storyteller. As in most African cultures knowledge is preserved by elders and is passed on orally to the next generation. Storytelling is therefore of great importance. The storyteller is knowledgeable, witty, entertaining and most of all a teacher.
Emmanuel Owaraga is a photographer and cinematographer born and raised in Uganda. He has been active in the East African advertising and production market for more than a decade. For the last five years, Emmanuel has been the official photographer for MTN Uganda. Other clients include Vision Group magazines, Heineken and Total. He led the design team that produced the Kampala Club’s centenary book. He was head of production for the weekly entertainment TV show ‘K Files’ which ran for five years on WBS TV, sponsored by MTN Uganda, and for the reality TV show ‘Miss Uganda boot camp’ for Miss Uganda Ltd. on UTV. He spearheaded production of the weekly entertainment TV show ‘3W.COM’ that ran for four years on UTV. In pursuit of mastery in visual story-telling, Owaraga has spent a better part of his career as a photographer travelling the world tirelessly seeking new experiences and honing his skills.
